Reclaiming natural hair – an important step on the road to reclaiming identity

That African and Afroic women the world over are shedding weaves, extensions and wigs and returning to celebrating our natural-born hair, is an important statement, deeper than fashion. It represents a rejection of European notions and dictats on what it is to be beautiful and reunion with their souls, genes and heritage. It mirrors a deeper need, to reject European descriptors of us as people, with labels like “black” and the “n” word.
